Wengfu SuStain(reg) is a sustained-release sulphur bentonite product for blending in situations where additional sulphur is required or where a sustained release source of sulphur is required.

Wengfu SuStain(reg) contains elemental sulphur in a range of particle sizes contained in a bentonite matrix.  It is manufactured by mixing bentonite into molten sulphur, forming the molten liquid into pastilles, and then cooling the mixture.  When Wengfu SuStain(reg) takes up moisture the bentonite particles swell, breaking down the matrix and releasing particles of elemental sulphur into the root zone of plants.  Because the sulphur in Wengfu SuStain(reg) is in the elemental form it must be oxidised to sulphate before it can be taken up by the plants.  The rate of oxidation is influenced by soil temperatures, moisture levels, organic matter levels and the particle sizes of the elemental sulphur - the smaller the particle size, the quicker the oxidation to sulphate form.  Wengfu SuStain(reg) contains a range of particle sizes, ensuring that oxidation takes place over a sustained period, making sulphate available to the plant over an extended period of time.

Unlike sulphate sulphur such as that contained in Single Superphosphate (SSP), elemental sulphur is not leached by rainfall so even under high rainfall conditions when the majority of sulphate sulphur will be quickly leached out of the root zone of plants, Wengfu SuStain(reg) maintains the supply of sulphur to plants.

Wengfu SuStain(reg) is ideal for use in pasture maintenance programs where it can build up a sulphur bank in the soil and release it over time as the pasture grows.  In established pastures, having sulphate sulphur available immediately is not necessarily the top priority: in heavily leached soils in high rainfall situations, in course-textured soils, or in situations where fertiliser is applied on a 2-3 yearly basis rather than more regularly, then the sustained release characteristics of Wengfu SuStain(reg) offer a distinct advantage over sulphate sulphur.

A blend of Wengfu Pasture King(reg) and Wengfu SuStain(reg) offers the best of both forms of sulphur: rapid availability of sulphate sulphur from Wengfu Pasture King(reg) and sustained release of sulphur from the elemental sulphur in Wengfu SuStain(reg). To find out more click here.
